Kowloon Express: Halal Dim Sum

Halal Dim Sum?! We were admittedly sceptical too, but Kowloon Express left us satisfied and impressed.

Located at the new-ish Clementi 321, this branch of the restaurant is just a few minutes’ walk from Clementi MRT Station, and we like this mall for its quiet environment, in contrast to the nearby Clementi Mall and Central.

Charcoal Golden Sands Bao (流沙包 – S$4.80 for 3): Their most popular item,  and it didn’t let us down. The charcoal lent the bao an interesting grey colour, although it couldn’t be tasted. Inside, the salted egg yolk filling was runny and hot with a good balance of salty and sweet.

Chilli Crab Bao (S$4.80 for 3): I don’t know why, but we expected more than just… chilli crab in a bao. It was exactly what it purported to be, but nothing more.

Beef noodle soup (S$8.90): Quite tasty, it reminded us of Taiwanese-style beef noodle soup rather than the typical Hong Kong satay beef noodles served in Cantonese establishments.

Not the best dim sum we’ve ever had, but certainly not the worst.
